As we can't get out on the water, we decided to chat to a few prominent kayakers to find out what they loved about paddling. First up is Anne Young, Senior Coastal Operations Officer at Maritime and Coastguard Agency . Anne has helped out at our MidWest Sea Kayak Symposium in her past role as kayak liason officer.
Anne first got into kayaking by going along with a friend to their local club. She loves exploring new areas, relaxing and focusing on the water, weather, scenery and wildlife. Pushing herself with conditions and enjoying rock hopping.
Her top tip for paddling is to learn how the tides and weather can affect you, then go out and paddle- it doesn't have to be dramatic or long but it all helps to build up your experience. We asked Anne what's her most essential piece of kayaking equipment? " My VHF radio as it means I can keep in contact and listen to what is going on around me".
