Caution- kayak on the move!!

Kayaks are not the easiest of things to move around. And it's not down to their weight, it's just that they're pretty awkward, long shapes.

Moving your kayak could be said to be the most hazardous part of the sport.

To avoid injuries-

Do not lift with your back, instead bend your knees and lift with your back straight.

Avoid carrying a boat on your own- ask for help. The great thing about kayaking is that it's a very social sport and people will be quite happy to give you a hand.

Best not to carry your kayak by the toggles. They're more of a safety feature for emergency rescues. If you carry by the toggle, there's a chance that your fingers get tangled in the toggle cord (ouch) or the cord could break and the boat drops (double ouch!!).

You and your helper should wrap your arms around the hull and carry it under your armpits. This is a more secure method and distributes the weight of the kayak more evenly and helps prevent strain on your back and shoulders.

Empty the kayak of heavier items, lifting a fully laden kayak makes it extremely heavy and also can damage the kayak.

The Argyll Kayaks Carry Straps can be used by two people but work better if four people have a handle each. So if you're on a trip, you can slip these under the decklines and very quickly and easily move your kayak from the water to your camping spot.

Never be tempted to drag your boat!!!
